Supply competent (IRSE) and fully equipped Signalling Teams to Network Rail Delivery Units.
Scope of works
Vital work closely with Network Rail Resource Planners, Works Delivery Managers and Signal Maintenance Engineers to provide frontline labour resources. These include S&T Grades from 2-5, including G110 Testers and SWTH staff.
Network Rail and Vital Teams work on failures by reacting quickly and efficiently to rectify faults and minimise disruption to the network. Other routine tasks include; Maintenance of Signals, Remote control systems, Interlocking systems, Track circuits, Train detection systems, all Points, Level Crossings, Batteries Cables, Magnets etc.

‘Peoplesoft’ - Fatigue & Rostering Management System
Identified – Automated process linked to NR Standard and HSE fatigue calculator clearly warns when an operative requires rest in accordance with NR fatigue standards.
Advised – Identified to a BBR representative and has subsequently been briefed at internal NR management meeting highlighting ‘best practice’ in this area of risk mitigation.
Objective Achieved –Embedded Qinetiq software (HSE Fatigue Index Calculator) giving real time fatigue index and risk values
By providing real time automated calculation of fatigue risk there is an immediate elimination of human error at point when operative is allocated to future planned shift(s).
Body Cameras for Nominated Persons and Supervisors
All Briefings and Instructions were recorded to ensure compliance and improve quality of briefs
Value Added Achieved - Quality of Briefs increased, resulting in higher worker engagement (because they knew they were recorded) which led to improved safety on site and productivity increased.
Increased focus on driving/risk reduction
Vital Fleet vehicles were fitted with ‘Traffilog’ software which measured speeding and driver behaviour
Drivers adhered to Speed Limits and reduced erratic driver behaviour such as speeding, extreme breaking, extreme cornering. This resulted in fewer accidents, fewer injuries, reducing fuel consumption which meant our Carbon Footprint was lower.
Competency Profile Data (CPD) Handbook
Each Vital OLE worker had a CPD handbook which recorded their work activities and signed off by a Supervisor end of every shift
Value Added Achieved - With this Data, Line managers could review, mentor and improve workers competence at undertaking tasks offering promotion and therefore improving worker career prospects and quality of work to our customer.
